Quote:
{2:90} How wretched is that for which they sold themselves - that they would disbelieve in what God has revealed through [their] outrage that God would send down His favor upon whom He wills from among His servants. So they returned having [earned] wrath upon wrath. And for the disbelievers is a humiliating punishment.

اشتروا means "bought" not "sold". The translation "sold themselves" is technically correct but it's using the wrong verb. I suggest,

{2:90} How surely wretched is that with which they bought their souls! That they would disbelieve in what God has sent down, outraged that God would send down His favor upon whom He wills from among His worshipers. So they returned having [earned] wrath upon wrath. And for the disbelievers is a humiliating torment.

Quote:
{2:91} And when it is said to them, "Believe in what God has revealed," they say, "We believe [only] in what was revealed to us." And they disbelieve in what came after it, while it is the truth confirming that which is with them. Say, "Then why did you kill the prophets of God before, if you are [indeed] believers?"

The same subtle style of 2:87 is repeated here, namely the use of present tense whenever God admonishes the Jews for killing His prophets. I suggest,

{2:91} And when it is said to them, "Believe in what God has sent down," they said, "We believe [only] in what was sent down to us." And they disbelieve in what came after it, while it is the truth confirming of what is with them. Say, "Then why do you kill the prophets of God before, if you are believers?"

Yes, especially with the verb for "sold" being used in another verse
